Finnish Schools Ranked #1 in Europe Again
For the fourth consecutive year, Finland tops European rankings for primary and secondary education, with standout results in literacy, mathematics, and student wellbeing.

Finland has once again claimed the top spot in European education rankings, according to the latest OECD PISA report released this week. Finnish 15-year-olds outperformed their peers across the continent in reading, mathematics, and science.
What makes Finnish education different?
Finland's approach emphasizes play, minimal standardized testing, and highly qualified teachers — all of whom hold master's degrees. Students don't start formal schooling until age seven, and homework loads are among the lightest in the developed world.
Student wellbeing
Beyond test scores, the report highlighted Finland's lead in student wellbeing metrics. Finnish students reported lower anxiety, higher satisfaction with school life, and stronger sense of belonging than the European average.
What's next?
Finland's education ministry plans to invest an additional €120 million in teacher training and digital learning tools over the next two years, with a particular focus on supporting multilingual students in urban centers like Helsinki, Espoo, and Tampere.
